About Abunzi Committee


The Abunzi Committee is an organ responsible for conciliating parties in conflict under its jurisdiction with the aim of consolidating unity and peaceful co-existence. This committee was reintroduced in 2003 and it had been operational since 2004.

The Abunzi committee is established at cell and sector level (appeal) countrywide and is comprised of seven (7) members who are persons of integrity who must all be residents of the Cell and the Sector respectively and well-known for their conciliation skills. Members of Abunzi Committee are elected for a renewable term of five (5) years and their service is performed on a voluntary and non-remunerative basis.
